About the event

The National Capital Region (NCR) group of the Institute of the Public Administration of Canada (IPAC) is once again proud to host the learning event entitled Demystifying Federal Central Agencies. IPAC-NCR first held this event in 2009 and then again in 2015 to sold out audiences of passionate and curious learners. Demystifying Federal Central Agencies again aims to provide a behind the scenes examination of the operations of the three central agencies – Privy Council Office, Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat, and Finance Canada – to advance learning in public administration. The business of central agencies largely remains the same. However, this year’s edition takes place amidst a global pandemic, regional conflicts, economic challenges, climate change, and social conscious currents (e.g., uprising against systemic racism). How are central agencies working in this time of complexity and disruption?

Guest Speakers:

  • Alison McDermott, Assistant Deputy Minister, Federal-Provincial Relations and Social Policy, Finance Canada
  • Jordan Zed, Acting Foreign and Defence Policy Advisor to the Prime Minister, Privy Council Office
  • Heather Sheehy, Assistant Secretary, Government Operations Sector, Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat
  • Moderator: David Dewar, Director, Parliamentary Relations and Government Affairs, Prairies Economic Development Canada
